The Hibel Museum of Art

Announces

The Authorized Biography of Edna Hibel

is now available

Cover: Kristina and Child, oil, circa 1970

This 300-page coffee table book explores Edna Hibel's life from the time her parents met

until she received the prestigious 2001 Leonardo da Vinci World of Art Award

$95.00 Regular Edition (Special internet price $75.00)

$500.00 Limited Edition with an original stone lithograph entitled "Two Generations"

There was a problem with the lithograph Edna was working on.

Edna was not happy with the way the lithograph "Two Generations" turned out and has decided not to produce it.

She has decided to go into her personal collection and choose artist proofs that she has worked on in the past and send them with the book instead. Each of the lithographs she has chosen has increased in value over the years  but she feels this is the only fair thing to do since it has taken so long (the lithographs are all different subjects and sizes). She hopes that this will satisfy everyone.

Edna Hibel is one of America’s most prominent colorists, known primarily for her “Mother & Child” images. She is the only female artist since the 16th century and one of only a handful of artists throughout history to produce paintings in nine consecutive decades. In 2001 she became the second woman, as well as the second American, to receive the prestigious Leonardo da Vinci World Award of Arts. Respected as much for her gentle, loving spirit as she is for her art, Edna has traveled the globe with her paintbrush and easel capturing images on her canvas that have endeared her to a multitude of adoring fans for the better part of a century. She has met royalty, celebrities, and common people from all walks of life along the way. Her genuine affection for people is not filtered through a barometer of class, culture, economics, or stature. She treats everyone the same and views their diversity as unique brush strokes.

This is her story. This authorized biography is based on her recollections with a concerted effort to capture her personality and character. This is the personal side of a very popular artist.

About the Author

Shawn McAllister, a professional actor, writer, and film producer, spent 3 years as a journalist for Gulfstream Newspapers in South Florida and was an entertainment writer for the Florida Sun, a subsidiary of the Toronto Sun Newspapers. He has ghostwritten more than a dozen biographical books, as well as his own autobiography, "Surrender the Jealous Mistress," in which he describes his more than 35 years experience as a performer and filmmaker. The longstanding member of both Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity Association appeared in more than 25 feature films and television programs and 75 stage productions. As an officer with two independent film companies — Earth Productions (with Gary Burghoff of M*A*S*H fame) and Macaw Films — he produced several features and television pilots, including the children's film, “Looking For Trouble,” for Roger Corman.

His wife, Marie, was an avid fan of Edna Hibel’s work. Through his sister, Nancy Walls, now Director of the Hibel Museum of Art, Shawn met Edna and Tod in 1990 and they developed a close friendship. They discussed the possibility of working together to produce an authorized Hibel biography when Marie became terminally ill and died of colon cancer in 1998. It took another five years before plans to write this biography were finalized and the task took more than a year to complete.

Shawn has two daughters (Dawn & Stacy), three stepdaughters (Rose, Terry, & Linda), nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
